Anyone who has explored Italy recognizes the juxtaposition of antiquity and modern architecture. The Italians masterfully craft modern, exciting spaces inside buildings that are, in many cases, centuries old. Rosso Gelato wanted to bring this wonderful combination to Rocky River and create the same feel and emotion for our first store. Though Old Detroit Road is an infant compared to the age of most Italian streets, it presented the perfect location.
Once we found our location, the next task was to design the space in a minimalist Italian style. Architect Rick Lalli was selected based on his incredible accomplishments in restaurant design. Rick's portfolio includes the Michael Symon empire of Lola, Roast, and the recent B-Spot restaurants. Rick also designed Red the Steakhouse, and our neighbor, Tartine Bistro. We were so excited when Rick signed on to bring Rosso Gelato to life.
The result is a modern but warm interior that showcases Italian style. "Rosso" is the Italian word for red and the color red is used extensively in the design. After all, red is the color of passion, and our passion shows through in every detail. We imported many items from Italy to make Rosso Gelato as authentic as possible. Our goal was to open a shop that transports our guests to any town in Italy and delivers a magical and memorable experience. Our display freezers, espresso machine, even our chairs... the famous Bellini chair, are all imported from Italy.
In short, Rosso Gelato is about our passion for excellence.
